However, that’s not to say that there aren’t things that can be done to relieve the symptoms and promote recovery.

That’s because sciatica isn’t actually a specific condition; it is, rather, a symptom. In other words, it is a convenient general term given to describe the sensations experienced in the sciatic nerve that are being caused by another, specific medical problem.

These sensations associated are usually a tingling feeling from the lower back an buttocks that passes down, most often on one side of the body, through the leg.

The pain intensity of this can range from relatively mild tingling to extreme stabbing. It is caused by pressure that is being applied to any one of the many nerve roots located in the lumbar part of the spine.

In extreme cases, this may be the result of a herniated disk, a degenerative disease in either the disk or lower back, a narrowing of the spinal column, or vertebra slippages.

Of course, it is always wise to consult your physician, especially since sciatica may be the sign of something more serious. However, should sciatica strike you, don’t panic; the treatment for sciatica may be simple and start at home.
